President-elect Donald Trump confirmed plans to declare a national emergency to fulfill his campaign promise of mass deportations of unauthorized migrants in the U.S. This declaration may involve the use of military assets for deportation efforts. Trump stated he would initiate the largest deportation program in U.S. history on his first day in office, targeting criminals among the unauthorized migrant population.

He emphasized the need to "rescue" cities from what he described as "vicious and bloodthirsty  criminals. ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) Acting Director Thomas Homan discussed the need for additional resources to effectively carry out the deportation plan. He raised questions about the number of agents available, potential rehiring of retired agents, and logistical support such as transportation.

There are approximately 11 million unauthorized migrants in the U.S., and the cost of their removal could reach billions annually. Mass deportations may lead to significant economic repercussions, including loss of tax revenue and labor shortages
