Recent data indicates that college freshman enrollment in the U.S. has decreased for the first time since 2020, with many high school graduates opting out of higher education.
Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin fromOklahoma expressed concerns regarding the teaching of the Bible in public schools. He believes that educators should be qualified, ideally having graduated from seminary, to avoid misinterpretation of biblical teachings.
Mullin's comments follow Oklahoma State
Superintendent Ryan Walters' support for a mandate requiring the Bible to be
included in public school curricula. Walters argues that the Bible is essential
for teaching American history and culture, asserting that students should
understand its historical significance.
However, this mandate has faced legal challenges, with parents and educators claiming it is unconstitutional. Mullin suggested that unless teachers are properly trained in biblical teachings, the mandate may not be appropriate.
